Yesterday the worlds largest Viking ship ever built in modern times is ducked in the Old Harbour in Reykjavík by Harpa Music Hall and Conference Centre. The ship left home port in Haugesund in Norway in late April to sail off for a challenging voyage across the North Atlantic Ocean.

The aim of this voyage is to explore and relive one of the most mythological sea voyages - the first transatlantic crossing and the Viking discovery of the New World, more than a thousand years ago. History tells us about the Viking explorer, Leifur Eiríksson, who discovered America over 500 years before Christopher Columbus. The expedition is all about exploring the world, just like the Vikings did.

The ship's scheduled departure from Reykjavik to Greenland is Friday May 13th morning but the expedition has had some delays due to weather.

While the ship is in harbour in Reykjavik it will be open for public tomorrow, Thursday May 12th between 15:00 and 17:00.
