The Atlantic recently announced its list of "The World's Best Revolving Restaurants", placing Reykjavik's own Perlan (the Pearl), which sits atop geothermal water storage overlooking Reykjavik, at the top of the list. The dining room is encased by a giant glass dome surrounded by a revolving observation deck on which visitors can take in a full panorama of Reykjavik and the surrounding area.
This is what the Atlantic had to say about Perlan:
"Built above a geothermal spring, Perlan serves a practical function—storing the city’s water tanks—and the indulgent one of fine dining in its giant glass dome. Enter, and you’re greeted by sweeping views of the deep-blue ocean and volcanic mountains surrounding Reykjavik. Get your fill of fresh local seafood such as sous vide smoked trout ($20) and, in autumn, a special wild game buffet ($73) of Icelandic delicacies like wild goose, reindeer, and puffin. Strókur, a geyser right outside the restaurant, can provide quite the mealtime show, shooting white plumes of steam high into the air."
Other lofty restaurants on the list include Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower in Las Vegas, the Space Needle in Seattle, and the 360 Restaurant in Toronto.
