Álftanes

Situated on a low-lying peninsula south of the city centre, Alftanes is a picturesque town that is home to about 2,300 people. It has a unique shoreline, clear ponds and water and is therefore an important stopover for migratory birds.

Alftanes is such a nice spot that one of the most important people in Iceland lives here. The ancient farm of Bessastadir served for centuries as a seat for the leaders of the country and is now the residence of the President of Iceland.
