Reykjavík is hosting the Nordic Music Days 2016 at the award-winning cultural and social centre Harpa. The festival, founded in 1888, is one of the world’s oldest music festivals and is held annually in one of the capitals of the Nordic countries. Nordic Music Days 2016 will showcase pioneering contemporary music performances by Nordic composers performed by leading ensembles and soloists from the Nordic region. In addition to the performance and sound art programme, the Nordic Music Days Pavilion will premiere at the festival.

The performance programme features various performances by ensembles, soloists, composers and sound artists and ends in a firework performance where the ensembles Scenatet, Curious Chamber Players, Adapter Ensemble and Nordic Affect bring their incredible talents together for a long durational concert where four new pieces will be premiered in between already established new work such as Simon Steen-Andersen’s ‘Black Box Music‘.

The NMD Pavilion serves as a platform for experiments, research, critical discussions, lectures, panels and workshops. The Pavilion will have three main focus points around its theme „Integration“: alternative ways to archive contemporary music; the West - Nordic region: Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands; and the new discipline of the composer as a performer.
