Reykjavík in 5th Place as the Best Destination for City Breaks

Travel Weekly's has chosen Reykjavík as one of the best destinations in the world for city breaks. Reykjavík is in 5th place after New York, Barcelona, Rome and Amsterdam.

Voted for by the UK Travel Trade, they say that Reykjavík is very popular at the moment and that "clients drawn by the promise of seeing the northern lights also book excursions into the countryside, whale watching and visits to the Blue Lagoon, but the city itself has many charms. Visitors love the brightly coloured houses along the old harbour and the fairytale fell of the Hallgrimskirkja church."

The magazine also chose Iceland as one of the best places to visit for spa and wellness. Icelanders have been bathing in thermal pools since the 12th century. Luxury levels have changed though from rudimentary tubs to sleek spas, including the Blue Lagoon, which is located right in the middle of a lava field, only 30 minutes away from Reykjavík city center. Or as Nikki Bell of Affinion International Travel says "Iceland is perfect for a spa break as you can relax in the Blue Lagoon."
