UEFA EURO 2016 in the Center of Reykjavík

Open-air screenings of matches in the UEFA European Football Championship 2016 in France will be shown this summer at Ingólfstorg, with the appropriate fittings and programme of events.

Open-air screenings of matches in the UEFA European Football Championship 2016 in France will be shown this summer at Ingólfstorg, with the appropriate fittings and programme of events.

Ingólfstorg is located in downtown Reykjavík. The event is prompted by the participation of the Icelandic men’s football team in the European championship in France in 2016. This is a unique occasion in Icelandic sporting history, which will be showcased in the heart of Reykjavík.

The aim is to recreate on Ingólfstorg the atmosphere of the terraces at the football stadia in France and to add colour and excitement to the city-centre experience. All the matches will be free for the public to watch in and around the square. In addition to the screening of all the matches on the big screen, there will be a range of family-focussed football-themed events every day of the championship. Everything will be geared to families – refreshments, programme and sales stalls. Emphasis will be placed on introducing the younger generation to football through games and challenges organised by the Football Association. Scenes of the fun atmosphere on the square will also be televised in connection with TV coverage of the championship.

Further planning of the programme will be carried out in collaboration with the City of Reykjavík and in consultation with stakeholders, the Football Association, in collaboration with Síminn, Landsbankinn, Icelandair, N1, Vífilfell, Borgun and Íslenskar Getraunir.
