Do you want to listen to fun teddy bear stories on International Teddy Bear Day and do some crafting after the story time?
Teddy Bear Day is celebrated on October 27th every year, which was the birthday of Theodore Roosevelt, former US President, who was often called Teddy, which is the English word for teddy bear.
Roosevelt was a great hunter, but one day while bear hunting, he felt so bad for a small bear cub that he let it go instead of shooting it. The Washington Post published a cartoon of the incident that attracted world attention. A shop owner in Brooklyn, New York, was one of those who was fascinated by the story and made a toy teddy bear that he called ‘Teddy’s Bear’ since Roosevelt was often called Teddy. The teddy bear sold like hot cakes and soon teddy bears began to be called teddy bears in the United States. Now this toy has become a popular playmate for children all over the world.
On this occasion, a very large teddy bear will be visiting the library.
