The Presidential Residence at Bessastaðir will be open to the public, as a part of Museum Night on 6 February 2026. Guests can visit the estate between 18:00 and 21:00. The Icelandic art at Bessastaðir, from the collection of The National Gallery, will be in focus at 18:30 and 20:00. The president, Halla Tómasdóttir and her husband Björn Skúlason, will also welcome guests.
Besides being the residence of the President of Iceland, Bessastaðir is an important historical site that has played a prominent role in the history of the country. Guests will be able to visit the main building, Bessastaðastofa, which was built in the 18th century, as well as the library and reception hall which are later additions to the estate. A collection of Icelandic art is on display on the walls, and a small selection of various gifts which world leaders have brought to Iceland.
Staff of the President's Office will be on site to provide information.
