Universe, what is sound?

How do we hear sounds? What is music? How does a microphone work and what magic is behind record players? These questions and many more will be answered by Alheimur at the Big Bang festival this year. In addition to fun knowledge regarding sound and soundwaves the children get a chance to let their voice be heard by answering the question “What fascinates you  themost about science?” And who knows, maybe you get the opportunity to put a white lab coat on and be a scientist for a while!

Fella Kids

The amazing 4th graders of Fellaskóli write music and lyrics from scratch. They even record their own music videos with green screen technology! Join them at Big Bang Festival and enjoy songs like “Dýralagið”, “Fourth grade” and “Sonic”, carefully conducted by one of Reykjavíks legendary drummers Hrafnkell Örn Guðjónsson, “Keli”. They have recorded exciting music videos where they use the magic of green screen technology.

Svanur Brass Band

The magic of music connects together generations of musicians in the brass band Svanur, where members are between the ages of 16 and 70. Together they will fill the open spaces of Harpa with wonderful music and presence, perhaps when you least expect it?

Stemmari

A unique participative musical experience. With the help of the public (and a laptop) Tómas is going to create a nice tune. Using different wind instruments like saxophone, tuba and trombone, Tómas will become a one man band! He will play and record all the instruments onsite and create a unique piece of music together with you!

Sing me a story

Do you want to hear a story? Perhaps a story of a dangerous tarantula which hides under rocks, or one about the kid in the cinema who had to choose between popcorn and soda? Do you want to hear a tale about a cat who went to London to meet the queen or one about the mythical Grýla herself? In the lively concert “Sing me a story” the singer Gudrun Johanna Olafsdottir and classical guitarist Francisco Javier Jáuregui use the voice and the guitar to tell stories. Sing along if you like!

Tumi goes to the moon

“Tumi goes to the Moon” is a 40-minute musical adventure with narration in rhyming verse, catchy songs and young Tumi cannot fall asleep. He hears the Man in the Moon calling to him as his bed quietly soars out of the window and glides into the air. Curious birds and musical raindrops welcome the little boy before he lands on the Moon to meet with children from all over the world who have come to hear the important message from the Man in the Moon.
